Sex-dependent inflammatory gene induction in prodromal Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease is roughly twice as common in women, and the inflammatory component of the disease is one place that difference could originate. The prodromal stage — before pathology is florid — is when a divergence would matter most and is hardest to see in people.
Status. Work in Dr. Nicholas Varvel's laboratory at Emory. Published as Manji Z, Rojas A, Wang W, Dingledine R, Varvel NH, Ganesh T, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease 2019;70(4):1259–1274.
This hub is still being built. The analysis is underway; the derivation, tables and figures will be posted here as they are finished, the way the completed projects on this site are. What is below is the design and the current state, written up as it stands.
The question
Does inflammatory gene induction during the prodromal stage of Alzheimer's pathology differ by sex in the 5xFAD mouse?
How it is being done
- 5xFAD transgenic mice examined at the prodromal stage rather than after established pathology.
- Inflammatory gene expression profiled and compared between males and females.
