AUA Core Curriculum teaching videos
The AUA Core Curriculum is where urology's apprenticeship gets written down for everyone. These are two entries built for it — a sacral neuromodulation lead placement and a pessary fitting — scripted, filmed, narrated and cut, and submitted on August 31st, 2026.
Sacral neuromodulation placement
Runtime 7:58 · submitted August 31st, 2026
Percutaneous placement of a peripheral nerve evaluation (PNE) lead for sacral neuromodulation, using the Medtronic InterStim system in a patient with refractory overactive bladder.
What the video walks through
- Patient positioning
- Fluoroscopic localization of the S3 foramen
- Needle and lead placement guided by motor and sensory response
- Securing the lead and connecting an external trial stimulator
Vaginal pessaries: types and fitting
Runtime 7:09 · submitted August 31st, 2026
Pessaries are a safe, effective, first-line, non-surgical option for pelvic organ prolapse and stress incontinence — and many trainees never see a fitting performed. That gap is the reason this video exists.
What the video walks through
- The three pessary families — support, space-filling, and incontinence — and the six most commonly used types
- A live fitting encounter: positioning, antiseptic prep, and trial of two device sizes
- Anatomic predictors of a harder fit: enlarged genital hiatus, posterior-predominant prolapse, short vaginal length, advanced-stage prolapse
- Follow-up, self-management, and complication management for safe long-term use
The question
How do you teach a procedure whose difficulty is entirely in the hands — where to stand, what to feel for, what the wrong answer looks like — to someone who cannot be in the room?
How it is being done
- Each video is scripted section by section against the AUA's teaching-video format, with every line of narration mapped to the specific footage, still or diagram it plays over.
- Anatomic and procedural diagrams were built from scratch rather than sourced, because the AUA submission requires clear rights to every element on screen.
- Filmed at 1080p and cut to sit under the AUA's eight-minute limit — long enough to show the judgment, short enough that a trainee will actually watch it.
- Each submission is a package: the video, a written abstract, and a signed non-exclusive license.
