National epidemiology
Ketamine cystitis in the United States
Ketamine use has moved in a decade from club drug to prescribed treatment for depression and chronic pain. Its bladder toxicity is well described in case series and poorly described at national scale — which is a problem if prescribing keeps rising.
Status. Early stage — cohort definition in progress.
This hub is still being built. The analysis is underway; the derivation, tables and figures will be posted here as they are finished, the way the completed projects on this site are. What is below is the design and the current state, written up as it stands.
The question
How common is ketamine-associated cystitis in the United States, who develops it, and how has that changed over the past decade?
How it is being done
- A national real-world cohort, sized to be the largest characterization of this condition to date.
- Incidence over time, with attention to whether any change tracks the growth in therapeutic ketamine rather than recreational use alone.
- Demographics: age, sex and geography.
This page grows as the work does.
